A lot of drama went into making DarkRock wines.

It all began when molten lava from a series of volcanoes flowed across the Columbia Basin for ten million years. When the eruptions ended, dark basalt rock several miles thick covered much of the Pacific Northwest. With the inevitability of change, Earth’s temperatures plummeted, ushering in a series of ice ages. From time to time, the ice dams ruptured, causing massive floods that sent walls of water, soil, and rock across the land we now call Washington State.

The distinctive flavors of DarkRock are a direct result of the planet’s evolutionary process. While today’s climate is a little less volatile, Washington State still has a flair for dramatic conditions—long hours of sunlight, striking contrasts between day and nighttime temperatures, and intense winds blowing across the Columbia River. This unique environment, unlike any place in the world, delivers wines of power, elegance, and one-of-a-kind character.
